The Joy of Boutique Hotels

I’ve traveled on business and I’ve traveled with my children. Business travel is chain hotels. All those away soccer games are chain hotels. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and have no idea where we are because the rooms all are exactly the same, right down to the picture on the wall. So when we travel on leisure, our goal is to seek out unusual, off-the-beaten track hotels that are unique and wonderful. Usually, that’s a hard thing to plan.

Finding Boutique Hotels

But with the assistance of an amazing travel and save program, the world is wide open to unique and boutique travel. One of our favorite cities is Barcelona, and we just found that it is possible to find nearly 700 hotels through this travel program, most of them one of a kind – in that that beautiful city. In addition, many of them have unique restaurants and bars.

Types of Boutique Hotels

Basically, unusual or one of a kind hotels are becoming more the norm in the USA as well as abroad. Even chain groups are creating individually unique and place-based hotels. Increasingly, American hotel chains are purchasing older properties and redoing them into unique sites.

From rooms that include Ukuleles for you to play to fully restored neon beauties, there are a number of different types of boutique hotels that you can find out there:

  • Art Hotels. Certainly, these have become a “thing” in recent years. Sometimes the art hotels are located next to a major entertainment Venue, and sometimes they are stand alone. One-of-a kind art fills lobbies and rooms. There is art in the from the lobby lighting, and art painting on the wall in your room.
  • Venue/entertainment hotels. These tend to be near performance venues and they bring out the musician in you. Accordingly, some have musical instruments in the rooms for you to test. Others have RPM record players and old or new 33s for you to enjoy. They have great music-act entertainment. Similarly, some even have their own small music venues within the hotel, just for your concert enjoyment.
  • Sports hotels. Yes, they are venue-centric. One of my favorite is across the street from Lambeau Field in Green Bay. It is decorated in, you guess it, Green and gold and photos of great players and great games.
  • Mini resort hotels. Comparatively, these are smaller venues. They are slightly away from the big “main” hotels at a resort area or ski area. They tend to have an emphasis on cozy, warm vibes, sometimes with great antique furniture. Overall, imagine a small lodge that is just for a few special guests. You’ll feel ultra cozy as compared to a hotel with 300 rooms and a convention center next door!
  • Refreshed “road” motels. Think of those old drive in motels with the pool out front and a giant neon sign blinking all night. After all, these are all the rage, and are loaded with fun. Undeniably, all the neon reminds us of road trips from years gone by.
  • Super chic fashion hotels. Think mostly older or recreated properties that have been completely reimagined. Also new properties done by signature architects and designers. They are gorgeously decorated, and the lobby, lounge, and restaurant are where it is at. Because, they are high glam and so is everyone in the public space. Therefore, be prepared to be your most gorgeous when you walk through the door.

Often, it can be so difficult to know where to look for these. However, turn to this amazing partner travel program and you will be able to see more of these.
